The new year is not off to a good start for one University of Georgia student. The woman, a senior at UGA, was arrested in Athens on suspicion of DUI Friday after an officer pulled her over to warn her that a taillight was out.

The incident occurred around 1:45 a.m. The officer who arrested the 21-year-old woman said he initially pulled her over because her headlights were on, but her taillights were not. When she rolled down her window, however, he smelled alcohol. The officer said he asked the woman several times how much she had had to drink that evening and she repeatedly told him that she had had only one drink with dinner that evening.

The officer noticed the woman's eyes were glassy and decided he did not believe that she had had only one drink. He then asked her to perform a field sobriety test, which she did not pass. She later admitted to having a vodka tonic, but insisted she had only drunk one.

She was then taking the Clarke County Jail, where she blew a .132 on a Breathalyzer test. She was cited for a first-offense DUI...and for having a taillight out.

In the interest of keep your New Year's fresh start pristine and intact, you may consider working with an attorney if you ever get in trouble for an alcohol-related offense. There is no guarantee a lawyer can solve all your problems, but they can work with you to address the situation as it stands as best you can.
