A former standout player for the University of Georgia football team was recently arrested on suspicion of drunk driving. Knowshon Moreno, who now plays for the Denver Broncos, was arrested in the Mile-High City last Wednesday. He has now been charged with DUI.
Police say the 24-year-old was driving his Bentley around 70 mph in a construction zone where the posted speed limit was 45. An office observed him driving recklessly and pulled him over.
It was during the roadside stop that the office reportedly smelled alcohol emanating from Moreno. Moreno is said to have then failed a breath-alcohol test and field sobriety tests. His blood-alcohol content level has not been publicly announced.
Moreno was taken to a detoxification center following his arrest. Police said that he was polite and respectful during the entire affair.
It will be interesting to see what t the lasting impacts of this arrest will be for Moreno, particularly in terms of his career. The NFL is aware that its players set a role model for society and so does not take drunk driving accusations lightly.
It will also be interesting to see what, if any, explanation Moreno has to offer. It is safe to say that no one sets out to drive while intoxicated. Usually, it's an accident that happens because someone has lost track of how much they have had, or because they did not think they would have to drive but wound up unable to get home any other way.
